Atlantic City‘s skyline has been defined by high rise casinos in the last 30 years. Now it appears that more groups are trying to change the skyline of Atlantic City just off the coast. Greys Harbor Ocean Energy Company out of Seattle is looking to push to create a wind farm off the coast of Atlantic City.
The Seattle based company is looking to build a wind farm about 10 miles off the coast. Their plan calls to generate 1,000 megawatts of electricity. The electricity would be generated from a combination of wind and wave power. The company sites Atlantic City as one of the prime areas to build this type of green power.
A couple of the criteria they use are proximity to shipping lanes, depth of the continental shelf, and cost of electricity in the area. New Jersey and specifically Atlantic City seem to fit that bill. What will happen to this proposal remains to be seen, but it does look like Atlantic City will fit into the growing push for renewable energy.
